HOW WE HAVE EVOLVED

ETC came into being in 1980, a descendant of parent company Eurotherm International Plc.

Then, as now, soaring fuel prices made energy management a priority, both for industrial survival and development.

Our brief was to develop and build oxygen trim systems that would automatically control combustion in industrial boilers.

In 1981 we applied zirconia oxide sensing technology to design a world-class oxygen probe of unequalled reliability, which made the use of oxygen trim a serious option for all boiler operators.

In 1984, the introduction of our patented adaptive trim control meant that, for the first time ever, the fuel-air ratio was controlled electronically and completely independently of the mechanical system to which it was connected. It was to become the electronic fuel-air ratio controller from which all others evolved.

By 1985 ETC had grown into the largest supplier of oxygen trim systems in the UK and was acquired by the US company, Syconex Corporation.

In 1988 the company was the subject of a management buy-out. ETC’s first electronic fuel:air ratio control was released in 1995; this control is badged for each OEM customer and been the industry’s standard control for more than 10 years and sales have yet to peak.

In 1996 the ETC3900, a development of the ETC3000, was applied at a UK Refinery.  This product enabled the site to utilise gaseous and liquid waste as fuel.  The control coped with changing calorific values and varying availability.

Winning the Queens Award for Environmental Achievement in 1998 gave cause for celebration: three ETC representatives went to Buckingham Palace to collect the award and everyone at ETC and their partners had a night out at Brighton’s most prestigious restaurant.

In the same year we received our ISO 9001 Quality Approval.

1998 was the year in which we signed an exclusive sales agreement for the USA with Fireye Inc.  This agreement has led to very close cooperation between Fireye and ETC to the benefit of both companies.  Today some of our products are designed to specifically to meet Fireye’s requirements thereby ensuring that our products are best suited for their market.

By this time we had gained an enviable reputation in the field of combustion control and monitoring, supplying the majority of the UK and many overseas burner manufacturers.

In 2004 our service department was awarded Safe Contractor approval and ETC Thailand was formed.

2005 saw the culmination of 3 year’s design work with the introduction of a new generation of controllers out-classing all others.

The winning of the Investor’s in People Award in 2005 confirms that our management and staff assessment, training and development is consistent with our plans for the future.

Today our emphasis is on the design of smaller, lower cost controls with superior features, performance and flexibility.  Energy saving and emission reduction remain a constant throughout our evolution.
